This second edition of the popular text on the subject of electrical interference in buildings provides an introduction to causes and cures of electromagnetic interference problems often experienced but seldom discussed in public, those found in buildings of various types.
The text arose out of experience in solving electromagnetic interference (EMI) problems in various types of buildings and covers sources of EMI in buildings, EMI cures, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in planning and specifications. It is of interest to electrical engineers, consulting engineers, maintenance engineers, civil constructors, technicians, electrical contractors, architects, property managers, project managers, and others involved in building services maintenance and planning.
The author issues an alert to building designers and planners to the need to consider and budget for electrical interference problems early in the design process. During and after construction is too late to avoid cost and schedule over-runs.
General requirements for avoidance and solution of interference problems in office buildings are discussed, along with special requirements for computer centres, communications installations, hospitals and laboratories. Examples and case studies are used to explain the interference reduction and avoidance techniques discussed.
